Today My Child Tested My Patience! Story Time
It’s inevitable, being a stay-at-home dad, that occasionally your child will push you right to the edge.
It happened to me today.
“So what happened?”
I’m getting to it. Relax.
Very simply put — she took the remote and wouldn’t give it back.
I chased her into the next room, fully committed. I was millimetres away from reclaiming the sacred item when she launched it. Not into open space. Not somewhere sensible.
Behind the couch.
This triggered a sequence of events that can only be described as tragic.
I had to lift the couch, I have an injured arm anyway so that didn’t help, not that the couch did not care.
I slid it away from its natural habitat (and if you’ve got carpet, you already know what that means). I didn’t slide it far enough, which led to me lying on the floor like a stranded seal, stretching my arm into the abyss rather than making the logical decision to move it properly.
My decision-making was not elite today.
Eventually, I retrieved the holy grail.
I placed the remote beside me on the sofa like a king resting his sceptre, victory!
Now, you might be wondering why this is such a big deal, well, It isn’t.
But to tired parents? It absolutely is.
When your toddler demands different programmes at random intervals, the last thing you want is to realise the remote is missing when you’re already running on fumes.
Anyway. The moral of today’s story? If you don’t want your toddler to have it… don’t leave it within reach of your toddler.
Simple, but will I learn from this? Probably not.
